Richard Feynman

Richard Phillips Feynman (May 11, 1918 – February 15, 1988) was an American physicist known for his work in quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics as well as in particle physics. For his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics, Feynman received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965. He developed a widely used pictorial representation scheme for the mathematical expressions governing the behavior of subatomic particles, which later became known as Feynman diagrams. He assisted in the development of the atomic bomb and was a member of the panel that investigated the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. In addition to his work in theoretical physics, Feynman has been credited with pioneering the field of quantum computing, and introducing the concept of nanotechnology.

I suppose it’s not so bad that the mormons have baptized yet another self avowed atheist. They have shown no particular interest in religious identification in the past. What is truly tragic in the case of Dr. Feynman is that, while he was married 3 times, he is only sealed to two of his wives. According to mormon doctrine, then, he will be denied his rightful place in the Celestial Kingdom, not having the requisite number of wives.

Gary Coleman

1 October 2011, 20:20

Gary Wayne Coleman (February 8, 1968 – May 28, 2010) was an American actor, known for his childhood role as Arnold Jackson in the American sitcom Diff’rent Strokes (1978–1986) and for his small stature as an adult. After a successful childhood acting career, Coleman struggled financially later in life. In 1989, he successfully sued his parents and business advisor over misappropriation of his assets, only to declare bankruptcy a decade later. In 2005, Coleman moved from Los Angeles to Santaquin, a small town south of Salt Lake City, Utah, where he lived for the remainder of his life. In early 2007 he met Shannon Price, 22, on the set of the film Church Ball, where she was working as an extra, and married her several months later. They divorced in August 2008, citing irreconcilable differences, continued to live together until his death.

Seeing this baptism record, one can only assume that someone in Ecuador is a big fan of Church Ball. Although it’s also possible that his parents or ex-wife wanted him baptized. Still, given that neither party have seen fit to bury him, more than a year after he died, it seems unlikely they had anything to do with his posthumous baptism into the church.

Pat Tillman

21 September 2011, 19:55

Corporal Patrick Daniel “Pat” Tillman Jr. (November 6, 1976 – April 22, 2004) was an American football player who left his professional career and enlisted in the United States Army in June 2002 in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks. He joined the Army Rangers and served several tours in combat before he died in the mountains of Afghanistan. The Army at first reported that Tillman had been killed by enemy fire, and Lieutenant General Stanley A. McChrystal approved the award of a Silver Star. The actual cause of Tillman’s death was later ruled by the Pentagon as friendly fire.

Seems that the US Military needed a good looking heroic figure to polish the image of the war against terror and they manufactured one out of Pat Tillman. Then two years later, it seems the mormon church needed a good looking heroic figure to polish the image of proxy temple work, and they manufactured one out of Pat Tillman. I’m sure his family wouldn’t mind any more than they did when the Army used him.

C. S. Lewis

19 September 2011, 22:03

Clive Staples Lewis (29 November 1898 – 22 November 1963), commonly referred to as C. S. Lewis, was a British novelist, academic, medievalist, literary critic, essayist, lay theologian and Christian apologist from Ireland. He is well known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Space Trilogy.

In the last 30 years or so, C. S. Lewis has been quote 25 times in General Conference, and over 100 times in church publications, so he’s something of a favored prophet among the General Authorities. It’s good that they have adopted him into the club, then, so that they can imagine that he was writing all his Christian apologetics just for them.

Cesar Chavez

16 September 2011, 22:59

César Estrada Chávez (March 31, 1927 – April 23, 1993) was an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW).

It’s important to remember our brown skinned brothers and sisters, in our temple work. If we don’t remember them in this life, who will groom the fields and lawns of our mansions in heaven in the next? Can we dunk him? Si, se puede!
